“Lay Your Tired Hands on a Full Stomach” in Bani Maqan

On 1 November 2025, the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung – Beirut Office held a screening of “Lay Your Tired Hands on a Full Stomach” in Bani Maqan, Iraqi Kurdistan, hosted in the garden of farmer Najeeba Kaka Rash, who appears in the film. The event brought together local families, farmers, students, and youth to celebrate their agricultural heritage.

The film sparked strong community pride and opened discussions on reviving traditional farming, producing clean food, and reflecting on the lasting impact of Ba’athist ethnic cleansing in the region. Community members emphasized the role of younger generations in returning to their villages to support sustainable agriculture, making the screening a platform for dialogue on food sovereignty and collective social responsibility.
