The screening sparked urgent discussions on the deterioration of agriculture in one of Kurdistan’s most fertile areas. Experts warned of farmers’ growing dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which are contaminating soil and food sources. Participants drew a powerful parallel between today’s environmental poisoning and the 1988 chemical attack on Halabja.
The event concluded with calls for collective action to protect Halabja’s natural resources, expand awareness on sustainable farming, and continue film screenings. As a first step, several agricultural engineers enrolled in RLS’s sustainable agrarian training in Slemani to support change in their region.
