On November 22, the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung – Beirut Office, in collaboration with Kalar Technical Institute and Hawkari e.V. Organization, organized a training on sustainable agriculture and seed sovereignty at Kalar Technical Institute in the Garmian Region.

The workshop brought together farmers, agricultural engineers, and first-year agricultural students. Participants took part in practical seed extraction exercises, gaining hands-on experience in seed preservation and receiving clear answers to the challenges related to F1 hybrid seeds. This encouraged many to reconsider their reliance on commercial seeds and reconnect with local seed varieties.

Participants were also introduced to ways of establishing a community seed library to support local food sovereignty, sparking interest among several attendees in launching seed libraries within their own communities.
